Life School Zoning Permit Application Update

Life School Zoning Permit Application Update

Over the past 18 months, the Life School team has worked tirelessly to design a state-of-the-art high school campus that will serve not only the needs of our families in Duncanville, but also the broader Best Southwest community.

Despite countless meetings with city officials, numerous emails and calls to elected officials, and many public remarks made by staff, students and parents, the Duncanville City Council did not approve our zoning permit application.

While the results are incredibly disappointing, I’ve had the privilege of watching Life School staff members demonstrate a global perspective, sharing who we are and how we serve a diverse range of students and families. I have also seen parents foster social awareness by sharing heartfelt stories about how Life School has stepped in to meet their children’s unique needs when other schools may have not been the best fit for them. And at the final city council meeting, a young student from Life School Cedar Hill modeled citizenshipas he stood before city leadership and asked for the opportunity to continue his educational journey at a Life School campus in his own community.

Situations like this remind me Life School is more than a building. Our partnership between parents, teachers and students has created life-changing outcomes for over 25 years in this very community and will continue to do so for generations to come.

I want to personally thank each and every one of you who sent an email, called a council member, or showed up to represent and/or speak at a public meeting. Your participation made a difference and clearly reflected the positive culture of Life School.

Please know, our journey is not over. We are now working closely with our team to consider next steps regarding our Life School Duncanville property site and will continue to provide updates as they become available.

Again, thank you for your engagement in this process. I have never been prouder to be a part of the Life School family.

Sincerely,

Brent Wilson, Ed.D
