Life School Receives Grant from Byrne Family Foundation Trust to Purchase Translation Devices

Life School continues to make communication for families more effective thanks to newly-received grants. The district was awarded two grants by the Byrne Family Foundation Trust to help purchase Translate Live devices for multiple schools, easing communication between faculty, staff, and parents who speak different languages.

Translate Live is a device that seamlessly translates spoken languages between users. With more than 200 languages and dialects pre-loaded, it allows for instant, in-person communication. In the words of the company, it is about “serving everyone without language barriers.”

“Translate Live is built to speak in their exact native language,” said Mark Molina, Director of Outreach & Enrollment. “It also offers the flexibility to choose between spoken or written translations and allows for personalization to suit each person’s needs.”

Life School submitted a grant request through the Byrne Family Foundation Trust. The Byrne Family Foundation Trust is an organization dedicated to supporting children and their education. The organization plays a vital role in empowering schools and communities and provides resources to foster growth and sustainability.

In October 2024, the organization awarded Life School a grant, and by December, the school received its first Translate Live device. The team installed the unit at Life School Carrollton (LSC) to evaluate its effectiveness. It is now used at the front desk to assist parents and guests.

The Translate Live device has also become an essential tool for parent conferences, school tours, and classrooms, significantly enhancing communication and creating a smoother experience for everyone involved.

“It has been a life changer,” said Edward Perry, LSC Liaison. “Families have been more comfortable coming into the office ever since we got this device.”

Due to the overwhelming success of the Translate Live device, Life School applied for another grant through the Byrne Family Foundation Trust, which Life School received in January.

With the new grant, Life School purchased five more units for additional campuses and which will be installed soon.
