Life School Receives Dyslexia Grant

Life School Receives Dyslexia Grant

Life School is excited to announce that the Texas Education Agency (TEA) has awarded Life School a grant through the Dyslexia Grant Award Program. The total grant of $370,000 provides $260,000 for 2022-2023 school year and $110,000 for the 2023-2024 school year. Funds from the grant will allow staff members to receive further education to serve students.

The purpose of the 2022-2024 Dyslexia Grant Award Program is to increase the capacity of local education agencies to serve students with dyslexia appropriately. In addition, the grant program provides funding for high-quality training to educators or specific training programs that result in dyslexia credentials. Specifically, these funds will allow six Life School employees to obtain their diagnostician certification, two staff members to obtain their Licensed Specialist in School Psychology (LSSP) degree, and one staff member to receive their dyslexia teacher certification through Scottish Rite.

Life School Behavior Coach Kristen Nichols said, “I am honored and thrilled to have the opportunity to obtain my LSSP with DBU through the Dyslexia Grant for Life School. I am excited to gain knowledge that will greatly impact our students, families, and teachers alike. I hope to inspire all to succeed academically, socially, and emotionally.” This summer, Nichols will start the program at Dallas Baptist University to obtain her Licensed Specialist in School Psychology degree.

Director of Student Services Stephanie Wolf, said, “It is an honor to be awarded the dyslexia grant from the Texas Education Agency. This opportunity will allow several of our staff members to continue their education in areas they are passionate about and at no cost to them. Life School will benefit greatly by having people ready to serve our students in these hard-to-fill positions.” Life School is grateful for this opportunity to continue building the vision of having every student ready to learn, ready to lead and ready for life.
