Life School Hosts Future Chefs Cooking Contest

Life School is working to teach students about the importance of making healthy food choices through a cooking contest hosted by food service provider, Sodexo. The Future Chefs event was held on April 25, and students competed to put their cooking skills to the test.

“The Future Chefs event encourages students to get interested in healthy eating by getting them in the kitchen and preparing a meal from scratch,” said Sodexo General Manager Joseph Hoffmaster. “I feel that the reason Future Chef is such a success every year is because we’re helping to cultivate a passion for food that will last a lifetime.”

Students entered the competition earlier this year by creating a detailed recipe card with measurements and procedures on how to prepare their favorite homestyle entree. Based on over 200 recipe submissions, seven different students from participating campuses were chosen to prepare and present their recipes before a panel of judges in the final Future Chefs event on Thursday, April 25.

In a collaborative effort prioritizing safety and mentorship, students were partnered with experienced Sodexo employees to craft their culinary creations. Their dishes were then evaluated by judges on three key criteria: presentation, creativity, and taste.

The winners of the 2024 Future Chefs cooking challenge for Life School were:

1st Place – Kennedy Wheeler, Homemade Chicken Nuggets - Life School Red Oak

2nd Place – Lily Webb, Sour Cream Enchiladas - Life School Red Oak

3rd Place – Gregory Smith, Salisbury Steak - Life School Red Oak
