Life School Expands to Grades 7-8 at Mountain Creek

Life School Expands to Grades 7-8 at Mountain Creek (Dallas)

For a decade, Life School Mountain Creek at Spur 408 and Illinois Avenue has served thousands of families by offering kindergarten through 6th grade. In August 2023, the campus is expanding to offer grades 7-8, giving more flexibility and stability to families in West Dallas.

This new middle school model will feature smaller class sizes, more one-on-one teacher-student interaction, the ability to earn early high school credit, and college readiness classes (AVID). At this time, athletics will not be offered at the LSMC campus.

Many families who choose Life School for their children become fans of the district culture – schools that focus not only on academics, but also on essential life skills and the strengths of each child. In the annual parent engagement survey, parents say, “Life School cares about children, understands what it takes to guide and direct children to blossom, and understands strengths and weaknesses." Another parent shared, "I love that I feel that the teachers and staff are more like family. I trust my children in their care, and that is very important to me."

Because of a significant number of Mountain Creek and Cedar Hill families expressing a desire to continue with Life School beyond elementary school, the district began offering bus service in 2021 from Mountain Creek and Cedar Hill to its Waxahachie campuses. The expansion to grades 7-8 now allows families in the area to continue middle school without the added transportation time to Waxahachie or the Life School Oak Cliff campus. It also adds convenience for families with siblings in elementary and middle school at Life School.

“We continue to hear from families about how much they love Life School,” says Chief Development and Enrollment Officer Eddie Davis. “While some were willing to invest time for us to transport their students to Waxahachie, we were aware that this didn’t work for all families. We wanted to provide greater access to more families in West Dallas. So, we’re glad to be able to add grades in their local community.”

While a significant reason for the expansion is to serve families who are already enrolled, the expansion creates space for new families who are looking for a campus home for their middle school students. The lottery season has already passed, so enrollment is now on a first-come-first-served basis. Life School is a public school, so all families are welcome. Families who are enrolled at Life School receive priority options to continue into high school at the Life School Oak Cliff or Life School Waxahachie campuses when their students reach high school.

“If families are looking to make a change, now is the perfect time,” says Davis. “This expansion follows other significant announcements, including the start to our 4-day school week. This is a great opportunity for families to find a fresh start with an innovative school model, and we hope to see a lot of new faces this August!”
