LHSW TAFE Student, Elena Fuentes

Life High School Waxahachie TAFE Students Head to State

Several students from Life High School Waxahachie (LHSW) are heading to Round Rock to compete in the upcoming Texas Association of Future Educators (TAFE) state competition. After a successful Area-level competition, fourteen students will compete at the state level from February 28 to March 1, 2024. 

The students representing Life School and their events include: 

Gabriella Weiss - Lesson planning and Delivery Humanities

Nadia Allen-Penn - Teacher Created Materials

Noah Davis - Exploring Careers (support staff)

Aayonna Johnson - Public Speaking

Gabby Strange - Creative Lecture

Elena Fuentes/Daizjia Bluitt - Children's Literature and Interactive Bulletin Board

Nadia Ortiz/Kalysa Jones/Kaitlyn Ervin/Chelsey Davis - Researching Learning Challenges

Johanna Barron/Gabriella Weiss - Interactive Bulletin Board

Noah Davis/Jaiden Berry - Interactive Bulletin Board

Nadia Allen-Penn - Interactive Bulletin Board

Kaitlyn Ervin - Lesson Planning and Delivery CTE

The students attending the conference are part of the Education and Training program at LHSW. The Education and Teaching program is a four-year CTE (Career and Technical Education) program that provides high school students with a comprehensive introduction to the field of education.

LHSW TAFE teacher leader Taylor Jasper is excited for the students to have the opportunity to compete at the state level, stating, “This is our third year with TAFE, and I think we have found our groove. These are the most kids we have ever had reach State, and I am very confident in their chances to advance further. They have worked hard, and the level of the work is incredibly high. I am very very proud of this group of students!”

The state competition will be hosted in Round Rock at the Kalahari Resort Round Rock. Following state competition, students can advance to the national competition hosted in Washington DC.
