Life High School Waxahachie Baseball Team Wins Area Championship

On Saturday, May 13, the Life High School Waxahachie (LHSW) varsity baseball team beat the Anna High School Coyotes to win the Area Championship.

In a best-of-three-game series, the Mustangs came out victorious. The Mustangs won game one of the series 5-1 before falling in game two, which forced an elimination game. However, in game three, the Mustangs’ bats carried them to a 14-7 victory. The win earned the Mustangs the Area Champs title for the second time in three years.

Senior Mitch Mamola pitched a complete game in game one, only allowing one unearned run and four strikeouts. Freshman Richard Tamayo collected six hits and four RBIs during the series. Additionally, Senior Joeyl Olveda caught all 21 innings of all three games. In game three, Senior Jaiden Jammer pitched four innings with seven strikeouts to close the series win.

LHSW Head Baseball Coach Dustin Robinson said “This was an exciting win for the Mustang baseball program. These young men have worked extremely hard this year and their hard work earned them the title of Area Champs. I am so proud of their hard work, and I am hopeful for the upcoming regional quarterfinals.”

This week, the Mustangs will face off against the Celina Bobcats in a best-of-three series in the Regional Quarterfinals.

The series kicks off on Thursday, May 18, at 7:00 PM in Denton. A second game is scheduled for Friday, May 19, at 7:00 PM. If necessary, the third game is scheduled for Saturday, May 20, at 7:00 PM. All games will be played at Denton Ryan High School at 5101 E McKinney St, Denton, TX 76208.
