Life High School Oak Cliff Boys Basketball Has Remarkable Season

The Life Lions from Life High School Oak Cliff (LHSOC), led by Head Coach Raymond Parker, had an impressive season in District 9-3A. With a solid 19-15 record, the Lions secured third place in the district, earning a coveted spot in the UIL State Playoffs.

Before the season, LHSOC welcomed Coach Curtis Dopson, who previously coached alongside Life High School Waxahachie Coach Eddie Berumen. Dopson’s addition brought a wealth of experience and fresh perspective to the coaching staff, joining Coach Parker and Coach Melvin Johnson. Together, they were focused, determined, and ready to make an impact.

The Life Lions began the season with a mix of freshmen and seasoned seniors. As the season unfolded, Coach Parker saw something special. “Our seniors were holding the young guys accountable, working hard, and showing leadership to the freshmen,” said Parker. “It’s been impactful this year.”

They encountered numerous challenges but consistently found ways to persevere. Even in the face of defeat, the team never allowed losses to hold them back, maintaining a positive mindset and pushing forward. As Parker explains, their resilience was truly unwavering.

“The guys would bounce back the next day and try to figure it out together,” said Coach Parker. “Just trying to find a way to keep winning and keep competing.” They saw something special in the teamwork and leadership that emerged.

The Lions’ season came to a close in the first round of the UIL State Playoffs against the Ponder Lions, but they left with plenty to be proud of. They finished third in the district with a 19-15 overall record and an 8-6 conference mark. Several players earned all-district honors, showing the program's depth and talent.

With a strong foundation, the Lions are poised for success next season. The team's growth and experience this year, combined with Coach Parker’s, Dopson’s, and Johnson’s leadership and returning talent, set the stage for another exciting run in District 9-3A.

“With strong leadership from their coaching staffs and dedicated student-athletes, Life School basketball continues to build a legacy of excellence and state playoff contenders,” said Scott Thrush, Director of Athletics.
