The Life High School Waxahachie (LHSW) Mustangs have once again demonstrated their dominance in District 12-4A. Coach Berumen, who is fast approaching 450 career wins as Life School’s head coach, led the Mustangs to an impressive 27-9 overall record, securing a second-place finish in the district and further solidifying the team’s winning reputation.
This year, the Mustangs’ success extended beyond district play. The team claimed championships at both the Wills Point Invitational and the Rivercrest Invitational, showcasing their talent and determination throughout the season.
“These kids bought into the big picture, which was ‘team first’,” said Coach Eddie Berumen, Head Coach of LHSW Boys Basketball. “The relationships they built with each other will last a lifetime.”
Entering the postseason, the Mustangs had high expectations. In the Bi-District Playoffs, they faced state-ranked Dallas Carter (#3), a formidable opponent. Despite putting up a valiant fight, the Mustangs were narrowly defeated in a hard-fought 45-40 battle. Though the loss was a tough one, the team’s performance against one of the state’s best programs highlighted their strength and competitiveness.
Among the standout players this season was senior Noah Davis, who wrote his name into the history books. Davis finished his career as the school’s second all-time leading scorer with an impressive 1,532 points. He also set new records for career three-pointers made (340) and single-season three-pointers made (141). Davis's achievements cemented his legacy as one of the program’s all-time greats, and his contributions were key to the Mustangs’ season.
Despite ending the season early, the Mustangs are looking ahead with optimism. With several players earning all-district honors for their contributions, the Mustangs’ future remains bright. Multiple players will return next season, positioning the team to continue competing at the highest level and keeping the legacy of excellence alive for years to come.
“We’ve been blessed with good kids and a good program,” said Coach Berumen.
