Eddie Berumen and LHSW Basketball Team

LHSW Basketball Coach Berumen Reaches 400-win Milestone

On Thursday, November 30th, the Life High School Waxahachie Boys Varsity Basketball team achieved a significant victory, beating Ennis by a score of 77-39. The momentous win also marked Coach Eddie Berumen's 400th win as the Head Varsity Coach.

Throughout his career, Coach Berumen has consistently steered the team towards success, earning a reputation as one of the finest basketball coaches in the State of Texas. His journey with the Life High School Mustangs started in 2008 when he became their first varsity boys basketball coach.

Under Coach Berumen's guidance, the Mustangs, who compete in UIL Class 4A, hold an outstanding track record averaging more than 25 wins per season. Their success is reflected in their playoff appearances, making it to the State Playoffs 15 times in the past 16 years. The team's accolades include 8 district championships, 8 Bi-District Championships, 8 Area Championships, and seven trips to the Regional Tournament.

Berumen said, “Each year, we share a lesson to our players inspired by the wisdom of John Wooden – ‘It's amazing how much can be achieved when no one seeks the credit.’ We've been blessed with remarkable young men, dedicated coaches, and their families who rightfully deserve the credit. Our program has flourished due to the exceptional contributions of our Varsity Assistant coaches — Jeff Goldsmith, Justin Burns, Jeff Bush, Curtis Dopson, Reid Brunner and others. Since day one, our coaches and players have fully embraced our program and bought into the culture. Every individual involved has poured their heart into this program, for which I'm grateful and humbled. It's an honor and blessing to be an integral part of the Mustang Basketball Family.”

Coach Berumen's impact transcends the basketball court. He has molded the Life High School Waxahachie basketball program, fostering a reputation of character and sportsmanship. For Coach Berumen, the 400-win milestone is not just a personal accomplishment but a testament to a coaching staff that instills team play, character development and essential life skills in his athletes. Through the platform of basketball, Berumen imparts valuable life lessons, mentoring the countless athletes who have passed through his program.

"All glory goes to God and our Savior Jesus Christ! The Lord has led our program these last 16 years and my family has been blessed to play our role in the program's achievement. I would like to thank my amazing wife Dawn and our beautiful daughters Logan, Maddie, and Ryann for their support and the time they sacrificed to allow me to be a coach,” said Berumen.

Further demonstrating his heart for the team around him, Beruman said, “I want to extend a sincere thanks to all our assistant coaches and their families, the Life School administration, faculty, staff, stakeholders, board members, along with every current and former player and their families, managers, cheerleaders, sports medicine teams, trainers, fans, and the entire Mustang Nation. This achievement will forever stand as a testament to collective effort."

LHSW will celebrate the milestone victory Friday, December 15, immediately following the JV basketball game at LHSW gymnasium at approximately 7:00 PM. All former players, coaches, and families are invited to attend.
