Life Habits

Life School is committed to intentionally developing habits in staff and students that develop the whole child, create a positive classroom climate, and produce a thriving campus culture.

Life Habits Framework

Life Habits is an integrated framework that combines the use of LifeLeader attributes, positive behavioral intervention supports, and social-emotional learning to address the needs of the whole child and create a positive classroom environment. Intentional repetition and consistent use of the resources provided in the Life Habits Framework will result in a healthy classroom and campus culture that is equipped to meet and respond to the individual needs of learners.

Life Cultivators

The Life Habits team values the input from teachers and staff throughout the district. Each elementary campus has a campus cultivator that supports the vision of Life Habits, informs decisions, determines best practices, and raises awareness on their assigned campuses.

LIFE HABITS COMPONENTS

Positive Behavioral Intervention Supports (PBIS)

Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is an evidenced-based three-tiered framework for improving and integrating all of the data, systems, and practices affecting student outcomes every day. It is a way to support all students to create the kind of school where all students are successful.

PBIS isn’t a curriculum you purchase or something you learn during a one-day professional development training. It is a commitment to addressing student behavior through system change. When it’s implemented well, students achieve improved social and academic outcomes, schools experience reduced exclusionary discipline practices, and school personnel feel more effective.

Social-Emotional Learning (SEL)

Social and emotional learning (SEL) is an integral part of education and human development. SEL is the process through which all young people and adults acquire and apply the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to develop healthy identities, manage emotions and achieve personal and collective goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain supportive relationships, and make responsible and caring decisions.

SEL addresses five broad and interrelated areas of competence: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making.

LifeLeader

LifeLeader articulates the attributes that we want to develop in our students and ourselves. It is a common language that makes it easier for us to understand each other and focuses our efforts.

Character education is not something that we pause instruction to do – is integrated in everything we do. The fifteen LifeLeader attributes are critical thinking, global perspective, information literacy, collaborative, effective communicator, ethical leadership, humility, problem solver, social awareness, citizenship, financial literacy, goal-oriented, resilient, self-aware, and self-managed.
