Life School, a charter school district in North Texas, is on mission to not only educate, but also prepare students for a pathway in college, career or the military following graduation. Under the umbrella of Career and Technical Education (CTE) is the Education and Training program at Life High School Waxahachie (LHSW). The program of study consists of 2 years of study and 2 years of hands-on classroom experience and is designed to prepare students for a career in teaching beyond high school.
Six Life School elementary campuses came together for the Life School District Science Fair at Life School Red Oak Elementary on April 1, 2022. The district also partnered with The Perot Museum for the event. While students waited to present their projects to the judges, they participated in STEM activities with employees from the Perot Museum.
Life School students learned first-hand about the value of long-term investing thanks to the SIFMA Foundation’s Stock Market Game. The game is an educational program used by hundreds of Texas teachers to “boost students’ math, economics, and personal financial knowledge, while also improving their test scores and instilling essential skills for financially-independent futures.”
Oscar Davis, a representative from Regions Bank, stopped by Life School on March 3 to present a $2,500 check and a large container of school supplies to benefit Life School students. The funds, through Books for Kids, provided Spanish-language books to elementary students at the South Dallas campus.
In February, Life School celebrated College, Career, and Military Readiness (CCMR) across its elementary campuses. Each campus invited community members, parents and Life School staff members to share their college, career or military experiences.
Reading is crucial for elementary students to build self-esteem, improve concentration, develop critical thinking skills, and learn to make sense of the world. Life School Lancaster Elementary (LSL) is prioritizing growth for K-2 students through a special partnership with high school students. Life High School Waxahachie Dual Credit Students and Student Athletes participate in the Bears Reading Club at LSL to help young students increase reading, communication and social skills.
During February 'Coaches Spotlight,' Life School's athletic department recognized Thomanique Hubbard and Chris Collett for their sacrifice of time and passion for Life School athletics.
Many Life School teachers and staff will be receiving additional pay ahead of Spring Break. According to the district, 584 teachers and staff can expect bonuses as a thank-you for their dedication during a challenging school year. Staff who began the school year with Life School and remained with Life School through February 25 will receive the bonus.
School choirs from across Dallas-Fort Worth gathered in Oak Cliff Sunday evening for the 7th-annual Parade of Choirs. Life School Oak Cliff’s Everlasting Life Gospel Choir hosted the 2022 event on February 27, 2022. The 2020 competition was featured on Channel 5 for its community impact, showcasing Elementary, Middle, and High School choirs, community choirs, and gospel choirs from around DFW.
Each year, National Read Across America Day is celebrated on March 2nd. The annual event is part of Read Across America, an initiative on reading created by the National Education Association to encourage reading in children at an early age. To celebrate the love of reading, Life School and Region 10 Education Service Center (ESC) hosted several Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders (DCC) and other special guests to read to the elementary students of Life School Oak Cliff Elementary (LSOCE).
