See, Sheppard-Ruth has attended Life Academy Schools since kindergarten and has always excelled in sports. Before deciding to focus exclusively on Track, Elijah was also a standout running back on a football team that was anything but, while maintaining an impressive 3.2 GPA.
Elijah discovered his love of sprinting in 7th grade and has improved steadily since then, culminating in a 100-meter Personal Record (11.06) in his final high school meet: The UIL 3A Region II State Championships. How’s that for a storybook ending? He also ran third leg on the 4×100 relay team at the Championships, where the Lions finished up in a respectable 3rd place (42.85).
In the future, Sheppard-Ruth wants to become an entrepreneur; his goal is to be his own boss and have employees of his own. He also has a unique and special bond with each of his teammates; from long runs and practices together to bus trips they’ve shared some of the best times of their lives together, and Elijah appreciates each one.
Although happy for the opportunity he is on track to get at UNT (pun most definitely intended) Elijah admits that if his dream school remains Texas A&M. Who knows? Maybe after a season or two at UNT, Sheppard-Ruth can earn looks to be able to run track for them. If not, UNT Dallas will get a steal of a kid for the next four years.
Being a winner on the track as well as in the classroom is why we at the Dallas Weekly have chosen Elijah Sheppard-Ruth as our Dallas Weekly Student Athlete of the Week. We wish him congratulations on his scholarship to UNT Dallas as well as good luck in all his future endeavors!
