Life School Oak Cliff NHS Students Volunteer with World Vision

LHSOC Students Serve Others through World Vision Partnership

In September, Life High School Oak Cliff (LHSOC) National Honor Society (NHS) students modeled the school's mission by partnering with World Vision to complete service projects.  World Vision is a humanitarian organization working to help communities lift themselves out of poverty. Part of the organization's work includes supporting schools, churches and shelters.

The partnership between LHSOC and World Vision has spanned the last five years. Each fall, NHS students participate in projects to help support those in need. This year, the students helped build care packs for the homeless, make-up packs for abused and battered women and supply packs for teachers in low socioeconomic areas.

“When we volunteered at World Vision, it felt like we were team building,” said student Ricardo Romero. “Working with NHS allowed me to build a closer relationship with its members, because this is my first year being a part of this organization. I also felt good about myself knowing I was helping others."

Each spring, NHS students also hold a fundraiser for World Vision to assist with building clean water filters for tribes in third-world countries that do not have close access to clean water. Over the last five years, LHSOC students have helped with 10 projects and fundraisers.

"We love the mission of World Vision and how they always help those in need. We also appreciate that they help adults and children. Every time we volunteer with them, we leave with a sense of pride knowing we have truly made a difference in helping others live better lives. I am so proud of the way the students come together and complete the projects they give us. I am constantly amazed at the collaborative skills they utilize," said NHS Sponsor Dr. Alissa Russell.
