Lancaster Life Skills Students Donate to Jonathan's Place

Life School develops students with life skills through strong academics, character training, and partnerships with parents and the community. The fruit of those efforts can be seen in how the district engages with its surrounding communities. Life School Lancaster (LSL) Life Skills students recently partnered with Jonathan’s Place to donate essential items to others in need.

Jonathan’s Place of Dallas is a national safe place, girls’ residential therapeutic program, transitional living center, and emergency shelter for children. As stated on their website, “The mission of Jonathan’s Place is to provide a safe place, loving homes, and promising futures for abused and neglected children, teens, and young adults.”

Burgundie Smith, Life School Lancaster Life Skills Teacher, explains that her class was exploring the Life School LifeLeader attribute of “humility.” Life School teaches students that humility is “having a willingness to serve the interests of others regardless of one’s status or opportunity for personal gain.”

To live out what they were learning, they decided to collect 100 non-perishable items to donate to children living in shelters. After a lot of hard work, the class surpassed their goal and collected 500 pairs of socks for Jonathan’s Place.

Humility is just one of 15 LifeLeader attributes that Life School works to instill in all students. These attributes create a common language to help the Life School community build trust, value people and continuously improve.
