New Technology for 2020 (English & Español)

Dear Life School Families, Although it seems that summer has only just begun, Life School is making proactive plans for the start of school in August.

After polling our Life School families and receiving guidance from the Texas Education Agency (TEA), we have determined while some families are eager for their child to return to on-campus learning, other families have concerns due to COVID-19. Therefore, in an effort to provide a supportive and collaborative learning environment that will meet the needs of all of our families, Life School students can either return to the traditional classroom on campus for in-person learning or participate in remote instruction from their homes.

Safety of our students and staff is the number one priority for Life School. It is important to us that we provide the type of learning environment that meets the unique needs of our students and families. In order to provide the safest environment for families who do choose to send their students back to campus, Life School will follow all guidelines and recommendations set forth by TEA and local health officials. Life School is working to finalize plans regarding the following:

  • Cleaning and sanitation protocols
  • Guidance for use of staff/student sanitation stations
  • Staff/student attendance expectations and stay-at-home guidance
  • Social distancing while on campus
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
    • TEA will distribute over 60,000 face masks, 18,000 sets of gloves, 41 thermometers, over 500 adult face shields, and nearly 600 gallons of hand sanitizer to Life School

After evaluating our Distance Learning platform, in addition to receiving valuable feedback from parents and teachers, we have invested in the following technology enhancements:

  • $1.7 million in new technology, including:
    • Learning Management Systems (LMS) -  a central location for accessing all assignments, grades, and instruction
      • Canvas for Secondary students (7-12)
      • Google Classroom for elementary students (K-6)
    • 1:1 devices for students in grades 7-12
    • 2:1 device for students in grades K-6

In order to prepare teachers to deliver remote instruction, we have implemented a Blended Learning Academy, providing all Life School teachers access to training over the summer. Additionally, we are exploring other options to maximize the remote learning experience, based on the feedback provided by families and teachers.

Detailed information regarding both learning models, as well as an opportunity for your family to make a selection, will be provided in early July. We thank you for your continued patience as we navigate these circumstances to ensure the highest quality educational experience for your student, regardless of location.
